What is a handrail end cap?

A handrail end cap is a protective finishing piece used to seal the open ends of a railing, ensuring a smooth, safe surface while providing a polished, professional look to the installation. 

What types of end caps are available at BM Steel?

BM Steel's EazyPost range includes flat, radiused, domed, and 90-degree tube end styles. Both round and square tube profiles are covered. All are available in satin or mirror polish, in Grade 304 or Grade 316 stainless steel. 

When should I specify Grade 316 over Grade 304 for end caps?

Grade 316 is recommended for any outdoor installation, high-humidity environment, or location exposed to salt air or coastal conditions. For interior staircases and dry indoor environments, Grade 304 is a practical and cost-effective choice. 

What size end cap do I need for my handrail tube?

Match the end cap to your tube's outer diameter and wall thickness. BM Steel stocks sizes for 42.4mm and 48.3mm OD round tubes in 2mm and 2.5mm wall variants, plus a dedicated cap for 40 x 40 x 2mm square tube. 

Do end caps need to be the same grade as my handrail posts?

Yes. Mixing grades outdoors is not recommended; a lower-grade cap can corrode and stain the post beneath it. For a consistent and durable result, specify end caps in the same grade and finish as your posts and handrail tubes throughout. 

Can end caps be used on both indoor and outdoor handrail systems?

Yes, specify Grade 316 for all outdoor installations. Grade 304 is appropriate for interior use only. BM Steel stocks Grade 316 end caps in both satin and mirror finishes to suit external environments including coastal locations.
