June Steel Market Update
Dear Valued Customer,
Over the past few months since the announcement of government-imposed tariffs relating to steel imports, there have been significant attempts made by the BCSA, ISTA and other organisations, as well as stockholders themselves, to inform government of the impacts this position will have on the pricing of steel in the UK.
Unfortunately, to date these discussions have been unsuccessful, with the answer received “a review will take place in 12 months”, which has been deeply frustrating.
As such, given quotas on popular products have been fully utilized this quarter, merchant bar the most notable, and given the seriously small quota allowances in Q3, we expect a tightening of availability and sharp increases in prices from the 1st July.
We would urge all customers to contact their company representative ASAP to discuss the tariff impacts and consider pulling forward requirements.
Best Regards
