Frameless Fittings

Frameless fittings like glass curtain walls and canopies provide a practical and attractive feature for buildings. Canopies are generally placed just outside the doors to an entrance, protecting people from inclement weather while still allowing natural light through. Glass curtain walls are lightweight facades that house glass panels with glazing systems that don’t support the weight of the floor or the roof.

Whether they are freestanding or fixed onto a building’s main structure, glass canopies are a great addition to any building's external face. They offer shade and shelter without obstructing any architecture, light, or views, and are thus as desirable as they are useful, especially within commercial settings.

Because they can be created to an impressive size and are very durable, glass canopies are also very advantageous in terms of outdoor coverage. This is particularly true in large public areas where large numbers of people will congregate. This is why they’re so frequently used at bus stops, within bus stations, and in outdoor shopping centres.

Glass curtain walls keep out air and water, acting as both buffers and insulators. Buildings with curtain walls are easier, more cheaply maintained, and have a better chance of lasting a long time because they have these protective shields built in.

Also, while curtain walls aren’t intended to provide for structural stability, they do reduce building sway overall, thereby securing the structure. They’re able to even out any stresses the building is subject to by dispersing kinetic force throughout the whole structure and frame. This means they make a building more able to withstand strong winds. This reduction in sway is very useful in tall buildings and will also make structures more comfortable for their inhabitants.

Frameless Fittings FAQs

What is a frameless fitting?

Canopy bolts, curtain wall spider brackets, and tension rods hold frameless fittings like curtain walls and glass canopies in place. They are not installed in a traditional frame, rather, external supports keep them securely in place.

How does frameless fitting work?

Instead of having a frame that holds the glass canopy or curtain wall in place, frameless fittings use tension rods, brackets, and bolts. This means there is no visible frame. Components are what keep frameless fittings structurally secure.
