What size battens do I need for cladding?

How do I install cladding on plastic battens?

Fix battens to the supporting wall or structure at 600mm intervals, with the first batten installed at least 20mm above ground level. Secure the first cladding panel using cladding clips, then align the next board and slide it into place. Continue this process up the wall, ensuring each board is level before fixing.

Do plastic battens expand and contract?

Yes. Recycled polyethylene battens will expand and contract slightly with temperature changes. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for recommended expansion gaps during installation to allow for this movement without causing distortion.

Can plastic battens be used for decking as well as cladding?

Plastic battens are primarily designed for cladding installations as horizontal or vertical fixing substrates for cladding boards. For decking subframes, plastic joists serve the structural framing role. That said, some batten profiles can be used as secondary framing elements within a decking build.
